A PROGRAMME designed to give youngsters an insight into local politics has been launched.
Six Scarborough teenagers will be shadowing their representatives for 25 hours over a maximum of six weeks, during which time they will be involved in a host of political and civic activities, from full council meetings to ward walks.

Sophia Linley, Tom Muir, Naomi Harrison, Devon Page, Kawsar Ahmed and Gemma Haigh, who represent Castle, Woodlands, Falsgrave Park, Stepney and North Bay wards, will shadow councillors David Jeffels, Janet Jefferson, David Billing, Dilys Cluer, Andrew Backhouse and Jonathan Dixon for the scheme, which is part of the Government-funded Local Councillor Shadowing Programme.

It is being led by The Youth of Today, a consortium of leading youth organisations working together to increase opportunities for young people as leaders of change in their communities.
