English Masterclasses

Dear Parent/Carer

Year 11 Master-Classes for GCSE English

Scalby School has organised a series of English master-classes to take place in the days immediately before your child's English examinations. Attendance at these master-classes will help to ensure your child's success in the June GCSE examinations, and certainly those held last year had an incredible impact.

Students will attend the master-classes in their English teaching groups, and each class will be taught by either their usual English teacher or by another specialist English teacher. It some cases the sessions will be before or after school, to maximise the effectiveness ahead of examinations.

The first master-class will take place on Monday 7th June, between 2.30 - 3.30pm, which follows the earlier Mathematics exam. Students will be given the chance to take a break and have some refreshments before they begin their English studies that day.

The second master-class will take place on Tuesday 8th June, between 8.15 - 9.10am. By starting the day just 10 minutes earlier, students will have the benefit of an additional hour of learning and revision before their exam begins. On the Tuesday, the school will provide students with a breakfast (either a bacon roll or toast, and a hot drink).

On Thursday 10th June, Periods 1, 2 and 3, will be given over to English lessons. These will again take place in the students' English teaching groups and will provide them with a valuable three hours of revision before their second and final exam.

Please do contact me if you have concerns or issues you would like to discuss concerning your child's English studies, revision, or attainment. I can be reached either on the school number 01723 362301 or by email h.holmes@scalbyschool.org.uk.

Yours sincerely
