Dear Parent/Carer Ofsted Inspection. Many of you will be aware that the school was inspected last week; the report is very positive and I look forward to sharing the inspectors' report with you as soon as it is published, after Easter. Basic Equipment Checks. After the Easter holidays we are having a push on raising standards for all children. Far too many students arrive in school without even the basic equipment. The school rules state that students should arrive with their equipment and from Easter onwards there will be an equipment check at the school gate. To make this more convenient the school will provide a clear plastic wallet in which students can place their equipment. All students should all have a pen, pencil, ruler and calculator as a minimum and if they cannot produce these they will receive a one-hour detention after school. Students can purchase basic equipment from the school shop in the LRC at very reasonable prices - pens between 10p - 40p, pencil with rubber 15p, rubber 10p, ruler 15p/30p and Sharp calculator £4.60. The calculator is the school recommended one, which we sell at cost price. The order has been placed for the plastic pencil cases which will be large enough to hold basic equipment, a small ruler and a planner. As soon as the pencil cases arrive they will be distributed to students. As we move the school towards providing an outstanding education for all children it is important that they come prepared to learn. New School Tie - Help the Heroes appeal. Scalby School has just launched its new tie in partnership with Rumours, who have agreed to make a £1.00 donation to the Help the Heroes appeal for every tie sold. The tie has been designed by students and is based on the school colours and existing badge. However, the ties are a clip-on design which will help ensure that the uniform standards reflect the high performance and aspirations of the school. The ties cost £5 and come in 3 different lengths. They will be on sale after Easter and can be worn immediately. In September they will be compulsory uniform for all students. Road Safety. May I remind all parents who bring their children to school that they should not park on the zig-zag lines outside the school. It should be perfectly possible to deliver your child safely to school by making them walk a little further from the top of the school drive. I have also been asked to remind parents that Hirstead Road is very narrow and great care is needed when driving on this and all the roads in this built-up area, particularly at the busiest times of day when there are many students and residents about. The police will be present at the start and end of the day whenever they are able to attend and I hope they will not need to speak to anyone. Private Fostering. The County Council has asked me to inform everyone that if someone else's child is living with you, or your child is living with someone else for more than 28 days, it is a legal requirement to tell Children's Social Care by ringing 0800 389 2362 or visiting www.northyorks.gov.uk/privatefostering. The Summer Term starts on Monday 19 April and ends on Wednesday 21 July. I wish you all a very happy Easter! Yours sincerely Paul Tarn |
